What is a Career Pathway?pathways

Life’s pathway extends from birth to retirement, with periods of education/training and work along the way. A Career Pathway is a series of connected education and training programs and support services that enables people to secure or advance in employment within a specific industry or occupational sector.

Why Career Pathways?

  • An opportunity to prepare for and enter a career pathway that leads to long-term, stable employment.
  • Helps individuals prepare move into the educational arena, develop study skills. and increase their academic potential.
  • Helps meet the workforce needs of the healthcare and manufacturing industries in southwest Minnesota.

What’s Available in SW MN?

The SW MN Career Pathway Partnership has developed a series of short-term training opportunities to help individuals enter a career pathway in a demand occupation in southwest Minnesota.

Training opportunities include:

  • Universal Health Care Worker
    • Phase I – CNA/HHA; 1st Aid/CPR; Infection Control; ServSafe or Food Preparation Basics
    • Phase II – Medical Terminology; TMA
    • Phase III – Medical Terminology; Community Interpreter Training
  • Metal Fabricator/Welder
  • Machine Tool
  • Carpentry/Construction
  • Commercial Drivers License (CDL)

Most of these trainings can be completed in 3 months or less, and will help prepare you for a job, or for further education. Classes include customized instruction and support to help you to be successful.

Classes are scheduled in various locations throughout the region, depending on applicant interest and employer needs.

If you are a southwest MN resident, unemployed or underemployed, and eligible for ABE, scholarship funds could help pay for your training.

Partners: The Southwest Minnesota Career Pathway Partnership Team has been working together to deliver quality career training and support in southwest Minnesota since 2003. Key partners include Minnesota West Community & Technical College, SW ABE Consortium, Southwest Minnesota WorkForce Center Partners (Job Service, Rehabilitation Services, and SW MN PIC), and local businesses.
