Sawstephen had previously attempted college during the COVID-19 pandemic, but the experience did not go as planned. Determined to try again, he worked with staff to complete an academic appeal, which enabled him to return to school and continue pursuing his degree.
Throughout his journey, Sawstephen’s biggest barrier was not academics—it was believing in himself. With consistent encouragement, guidance, and support from his Career Specialist, Sandy, he stayed focused on his goals even during moments of doubt. Regular check-ins, motivation, and reassurance helped Sawstephen build confidence and resilience while balancing school, work, and family life.
Reflecting on his experience, Sawstephen shared, “None of this would have been possible without your encouragement, guidance, and belief in me—especially during the moments when I doubted myself.” He also noted how impactful that support was, adding, “Knowing I had your support gave me the confidence to push forward and strive for my goals.”
His hard work and perseverance led to a proud and memorable milestone. The day Sawstephen received his cap and gown, he stopped by to personally share the moment and express his gratitude to the team who supported him along the way.
Today, Sawstephen continues to grow both professionally and personally. He plans to further his education while maintaining his current employment, demonstrating his commitment to building a strong future for himself and his family. As he reflected on his journey, Sawstephen shared that it taught him “resilience, discipline, and the value of perseverance.”
