Success Story: Samantha

State Dislocated Worker Program | May 2023 | Sandy Demuth

From losing your business to “I’ve got my all.” A story of never giving up with a little extra help.

No one ever knows where life will take them; it only matters how they react. Samantha, a single mom of 4, knows this all too well. In 2020, she was a proud business owner and provided for her family; Covid hit, and she was forced to close. Since she entered the Air Force right out of high school, she had no additional training beyond her GED and needed to know where to turn. We worked with Samantha to help her determine the best path and enrolled her in our State Dislocated Worker Program, where we paid her tuition at MN West Community and Technical College’s Law Enforcement Program.

With a commute of 60 miles one way, four children, a home to care for, and homework each night, Samantha faced some tough days, but she never gave up. Graduating with honors and an AAS in Law enforcement. We began helping Samandtha look for a job. Struggles along the way led her to look for jobs out of SW Minnesota but she finally secured employment as a Sheriff Deputy with Washington County and began work on April 10, 2023.

After a little over a month at work, Samantha was honored to present the memorial wreath at the Law Enforcement Memorial Day service. She has since written to express how well things are going and that she is happy.

Congratulations Samantha! We are so proud to have helped you reach your goal!
