Success Story: Kevin Powers His Future Through Clean Energy Career Pathways

kevin Kevin’s journey is a shining example of how hard work, determination, and opportunity can spark a successful career. He enrolled in the Adult Career Pathway Program through the Southwest Minnesota Private Industry Council (PIC), supported by the Clean Energy Grant.

This initiative was created to open doors for qualified Minnesotans, helping them access good-paying, union trade jobs in the growing fields of construction, clean energy, and energy efficiency.

As Governor Walz shared, “Minnesota needs workers with the right skills to build and deploy climate solutions that promote energy efficiency, advance resiliency, and support the state’s transition to clean energy. DEED is helping prepare Minnesota’s workforce to fill the growing number of good-paying new jobs as the state moves toward a cleaner, more sustainable, more equitable, and climate-ready economy.”

Through the program, Kevin received guidance and support to pursue his goal of becoming an Electrician at Minnesota West Community and Technical College. His dedication paid off, and he graduated with success and quickly found employment with Interstates, a company that builds, automates, maintains, and protects the systems that keep industries moving forward.

Now working full-time in his trade, Kevin is gaining valuable on-the-job experience and building his hours toward obtaining his journeyman license. Reflecting on his journey, Kevin shared: “Working with my team, I’ve learned so much. Every day is a learning experience, and I continue to grow.”

We are incredibly proud of Kevin’s achievements and the bright future ahead of him. His success represents what’s possible when individuals are given the tools and training to power Minnesota’s clean energy future.
